There are three hummingbirds in my family
My sisters and I are American children raised with the version of freedom borne from the traumas of not having it enough. Our parents escaped the motherland to find it here. During each of me and my sisters’ adolescence, we rebelled to escape past traumas, however.
We have a huge age gap; Jassy is 25, Isa is 27, I’m 20. Our age distance has made it difficult to connect on our struggles. While living on our respective stages in life, we haven’t been able to talk about it.
With this gallery, I am attempting to close this distance by presenting my sisters as beacons, symbolizing what internalized generational trauma looks like.
Understanding their stories has helped me understand my own.
